Decorative Walls

Retaining wall installation addresses sloped ground, erosion concerns, and changes in yard elevation. Walls define planting areas, support raised spaces, and create level sections for patios, lawns, or landscaping.

A retaining wall is a structural element, not a decorative one, and it fails in predictable ways when it's treated as decoration. Walls that lean, bulge, or separate at the joints almost always come down to two things: inadequate base and no drainage behind the wall.

The drainage piece is the one most often skipped, because it's invisible once the wall is finished. Water collecting behind a retaining wall exerts enormous pressure, and there is no block system strong enough to hold back saturated soil indefinitely. Proper backfill and drainage relieve that pressure so the wall only carries what it was designed for.

Decorative and seating walls follow the same principles at smaller scale, and they're one of the best ways to define a patio space and add permanent seating at the same time.
